Blue Bithday Cake

John hit the bit "5" on April 26th and we are celebrating his birthday tomorrow. Now, as many of you know...Grandma bakes cakes. Grandma bakes cakes for just about every occasion. We have had Christmas cakes, Easter cakes, Birthday cakes, Halloween cakes...there have even been times when there was no reason for a cake except that we were heading to Madison to visit the Maier's. "Grandma" cakes have been around for years with Mitchell being my biggest fan. Lot's of them are pictured on previous blog posts.

Now, usually I bake the Funfetti cake with the Confetti frosting. It's sooooooooo easy!  No need to rack your brain on how to decorate it. They have holiday cake mixes with matching frosting mixes which comes with its own sprinkles....takes the guess work out of what it should look like and the stress out of baking (I don't like to bake; I don't even like to cook).

Well, for John's birthday this year, I asked him what color cake he wanted.  BLUE. I tried to get a little more information like light blue, dark blue, blue swirls.....no, just BLUE. Ok, who am I to dispute a 5 year-old who thinks Grandma bakes the best cakes in town.  BLUE it is!!!

So, here it is.....now, I kow it looks a little rough but it is blue. I think the real test will be when we slice into it to see that beautiful color. I will be slopping some white fluffy frosting on it, and John will decorate it anyway he wants....we have dinosours and candles.  Grandpa and I took a trip to the $ store on a mission to find trees and maybe a volcano to add to the prehistoric theme but no luck. So, John will have to make do with whatever he has, and however he wants to do it. It's HIS cake so he's in charge of decorating it.  I did my part.  BLUE cake delivered!!!

Thanks!! Yeah, I thought that was a good picture of the girls. Lexi was our little "whoops" baby but certainly still a gift from God.
