It's Getting Colder Out There......

With the colder weather upon us, Grandpa and I have had to beef-up our outer ware for our daily walk. Grandpa seems to handle the lower temperatures better than I do; most likely from all his years of working outside in the winter months. As for me, if I'm not warm, I AIN'T going out there! So, that led me to the hunt for more layers to pile on before we head out the door. I live in sweatpants or as granddaughter #1, Trinity, likes to call them....'cozy pants'. However, when the wind is whipping around out there, even my heaviest don't do the job so Grandpa passed down one of his pairs of long underware he used to wear to work for me to wear as the first layer.....WOW! What a difference that made. I don't know how well it will work when it REALLY gets cold but for now, my legs are nice and warm. As for the top part of my body, that is where the true meaning of 'layering' comes in. Usually I run around the house in a t-shirt with sweat shirt over that, but that wasn't enough to stay warm so I had to digging for more. Found one just perfect item that not only is perfect for the task of keeping me warm but sentimental.....a hooded NY sweatshirt that belonged to my dad. That goes over the first sweat shirt and with the hood, it doubles as one of the layers for my head. Next comes a winter coat (free from Marlboro when Grandpa used to smoke). Now, this jacket is a very important part of the outer attire because it not only has a collar that comes way up past my neck but it has four huge outside pockets which are needed to carry:  tissues, doggy bag along with the much needed items since I wrote my last blog....cell phone, pepper spray, and blasting alarm; plus my key chain if I remember. To 'top' it off, on goes a hat with the hood of the NY sweat shirt over that and a scarf wrapped and tied around my neck.

Now, you wouldn't think I would be able to move with all of this on but I do very nicely. However, I noticed on our last walk yesterday (with the wind) I may need to purchase a ski mask because my face got pretty cold and/or an extra scarf wrapped around my head would probably work too. And, I may switch from gloves to mittens.....to keep my fingers warmer cause you can move them around inside the mittens.

I know there will probably come a time when it will be just TOO cold to walk with Grandpa and Sparkles but until then, I will keep piling on the layers until I can't move or run out of clothes, whichever comes first.

P.S. We have company now on our walks.....police squads have been a huge presence on our block since last week along with fewer punky kids.  In fact, some of those kids think Grandpa is a cop with his canine partner....we're not about to tell them anything different (-:
