As you know, I love being a Grandma and LOVE to blog about my grandkids. But for a moment I would like to touch on the mothers of these grandchildren, our daughters, Shelly and Becky (or Michele and Rebecca as they prefer to be called). I loved raising these two girls. In fact, after we had Shelly and I got pregnant again, I was hoping for another girl. Raising two girls in a small one-bathroom house was a real challenge at times, especially when they got into high school but we managed, survived and kept our sanity for the most part. But, I'm not saying it was all sunshine and smiles either. It couldn't be with two girls so different in their personalities, attitudes and view of their world around them. There were many doors slammed, tears shed and days of screaming followd by those of total silence; ignoring each other. To see them now, you would never guess that a great deal of the time while they were growing up together, they were not close. But time and circumstances change people; kids grow up and if luck has it, siblings become great friends as with Shelly and Becky. Also, they may be my daughters but I'm delighted to say that they are my very best friends.
Anyhow, each has a reason to celebrate at the moment and I have the 'bragging rights'. Shelly who works at Riverstone Resort in Tennessee was recognized for her computer skillls and has been given the responsibility of keeping Riverstone's Facebook, Twitter (and maybe a Blog to come) up to date. If you see any posts on Facebook from Riverstone, you can be sure they were written and designed by Shelly. She has always been interested in computers and it looks like that interest was noted by the higher-ups and she now has a chance to spread her wings in a new area and have some fun doing so.
Becky has decided to go back to college to earn a degree in Supervisory & Management in addition to earning her Banking Certificate. She is still working in fraud detection, her first job after getting out of college years ago with her Criminal Justice degree but wants to move into another field; something that would give her better hours so she can spend more time with her kids as they grow up and get involved in sports and other activities. It's a two year degree program and most of her classes will be done online. She is thrilled to be back in school even though she will be very, very busy!
Not only are they both reaching and achieving goals, but by doing so, they are wonderful examples to their children. They are showing them that if you really want something bad enough and are not scared of hard work, you can get it.
Oh, did I say that they are GREAT Moms too........
