Flip-Flopping the President......

Now, it just might just be me (although I think there are more of 'us' out there than we let on) but I was taught, I taught my children and I WILL teach my grandchildren....you respect the President of the United States. I don't care if you don't like him as President, what his wife wears, you think his kids are brats or his dog is ugly...you suck it up and show your respect. This picture is the perfect example of respect going right out the window, not to mention what our children will wear whatever they want, whenever they want. And then some people can't figure out what's going wrong with our schools these days!!

President Obama made an appearance at Ground Zero to dedicate a wreath to those who lost their lives on that terrible day 9/11. In this picture he is showing his condolences to a family who lost a loved one (husband and father) on that day; a mother and her two daughters. Mom is dressed in the appropriate fashion to meet the president....down to her dress shoes.  So, you tell me why she allowed her daughters to show up wearing....yes....sandals and 'flip-flops'! Geese, now that I'm looking at this photo again, look at the hemlines of those skirts!! I love Grandpa's response to this...."Well, they DO have sparkles on them" (the footwear, that is). Oh, so that makes them dressy and respectful at an event of this nature which included meeting the president. I suppose some could say that he has two daughters of his own and he knows what the kids are wearing these days. You know...."Go with the flow". Well, you can bet they have more dress shoes in their closets than flip-flops and they know what to where when.

By no means am I intending to minimize the seriousness of this event. We all know that 9/11 was just the most horrible thing to happen in our country. Many, many people were lost senselessly. And, for this family to be invited to meet the president to honor the loved ones that were taken from us, it must have been very emotional for them on many levels.

Oh my......I just realized what I am trying to say and how bad this ended up coming out. There is a time and place to wear whatever you wear. And, really....at an event like this where their father is being honored for losing his life, who cares WHAT they have on their feet. President Obama certainly didn't care so why should I?

I apologize to these two young girls for my ragging on their choice of shoes.....however, I still can't get past the flip-flops even though Trinity and Madison live in them. I just wish they would listen to us when we tell them they are not the proper footwear for riding their bikes......oh, or for meeting the President of the United States any time soon.
