Could our luck be changing?

As stated in a previous post, our house has been on the market for going on 19 months with very little activity; some people have looked but no offers at all.  In our living room and hall I had ripped up the carpeting several years ago when I was tired of looking at it....who wouldn't be when it was over 30 years old? If I remember correctly, we bought it when Becky was celebrating her 5th birthday. It was multicolored rust in color, worn down by two kids, and many dogs over the years. I remember when I went out and ordered it.  We had a huge Irish Setter (along with 1 or 2 other dogs) at the time and I went with the brainstorm of getting carpeting the same color of the dog so we wouldn't see dog hair Rusty's dog hair. Besides, it was a good color that went with the furniture we had at the time too.

I was between jobs, the Jude trial was on Tru TV and I was bored. So, I dragged out a carpet cutter, screwdriver, hammer, huge putty knife and garbage bags and started ripping it out while I watched the trial proceed. I don't remember how long it took me, but it was days and I was very proud of my accomplishment. But, this left us with not-so-good-looking hardwood floors but back then we didn't care. We lived with it until we decided to sell the house.

One thing we decided not to do when I gutted and fixed up the house to put in on the market was refinish the floors or invest in carpeting. What if a prospective buyer had allergies and couldn't handle living with the carpeting?  It was not an option to refinish the floors because of my asthma. Then there's the thought that if we make the investment and the new buyers rip it our anyway. Well, after 19 months, we surrender. We went out and ordered carpeting (in addition to lowering the price AGAIN).

However, we did get a pleasant surprise at the carpet store. They had some very nice neutral  type carpeting on sale and a 'promotion' going on. They had balloons throughout the store. Each one had a gift inside and all customers got to pop one for the gift.  I picked a very pretty lavender one and this little tiny piece of paper fell out. The salesman unfolded it and WA-la!!!!  $75 off of our purchase! So, that was a nice surprise. NOW......

Let's see if it makes a difference, it was money well-spent and can find a buyer!!!
