What's in a name?

Quite a bit if you are our 5th grandchild on the way......

Lexi Annabelle Schmidt Hamilton

There is quite the story behind this name....more so than any of our other grandchildren. I previously blogged regarding the naming of this little darling and the controversy it caused within our immediate family. I'll skip repeating all that only because the dust has settled, the mother (Shelly) was getting stressed out and she came up with a name that makes everyone happy.....actually, everyone's opinion was taken into consideration and I think Shelly was very diplomatic in her decision.

Lexi - That is the name Shelly wants for the first name; end of subject!
Annabelle - Trinity wanted to call the baby Ann (because she said she had a dream that she was supposed to be called Ann when she was born...go figure). Then Annabelle came up and Grandpa fell in love with that name (it's so Southern) but Shelly would not budge. Anne was going to be the middle name which is Aunt Becky's middle name (with the 'e' at the end) and the name that Trinity liked. Well, Shelly's friends at work guilted her into Annabelle when they found out that Grandpa wanted it so she caved. And, actually, she now thinks "Belle" would make for a cute nickname.
Schmidt - Shelly is not married at the moment and wanted HER last name as part of the last name for the baby but logically and out of respect for the daddy, she certainly could not tack on Smith. It may be her last name now but it is also the last name of Trinity and Madison's daddy but not this one. So, I suggested she use her maiden name.....Schmidt as an additional middle name. It's done quite often these days, especially in Hollywood!
Hamilton - Daddy's last name.

You will note that it is not a hyphenated last name of Schmidt-Hamilton....let's face it....when kids start kindergarten, they have enough to learn how to spell and write. Why make it more difficult for them? All she has to learn is Lexi Hamilton which actually is quite pretty if I do say so myself.

And, I think I've finally stopped calling her Lexi Lu - don't ask!
