Our big computer crashed....actually, the hard drive finally gave out so that computer was in the shop. Grandpa wasn't too happy because that's the one he uses to check his email, play bridge on Sundays and his other games along with surfing the net. He's not a laptop sort of computer geek so he was sort of at a loss for a while (although he did manage to go back to reading which isn't the worst thing for any of us). We took it in, brought it home, tried to re-install our stuff from our external backup but it froze up.....so, back to Milwaukee PC it went. However, I am happy to report that it is back home, up and running and Grandpa is a happy camper once again. While that computer was unavailable, it forced me to get on this laptop and learn a lot more and actually, I have grown rather attached to "Lulu" (that's her name) and want to wean myself off of Grandpa's and use mine for all of my computer needs.
Milwaukee was hit by heavy, heavy rains last week. You may have heard about it...the "Brew City Flood". We faired pretty good but for others very bad. Many flooded homes which meant personal belongings gone, major cleanups and piles of damaged belongings on the curbs. I was driving down Mill Road and almost hit a stuffed teddy bear that had fallen off one pile and I felt so bad thinking that must have belonged to a child who had to give it up. When your basement floods, you have to clean it out completely and scrub it down with bleach. Everything HAS to go because bacteria and mold will grow on it all and can make you sick. Furniture, rugs....everything! Some even lost their homes....foundations washed away and without flood insurance (which is very expensive and we usually do not carry in Wisconsin) they are left completely homeless. The few times that I drove around the city this past week and saw the many, many piles on the curbs, I had to thank God that we were spared and my heart goes out to those who weren't.
Well, I'm sitting on my bed writing this and I see that Lulu is just about out of battery life so I have to close for now. I will be back later though to catch you up on more news....so stay tuned!
It's great to be back (-:
