As of today, it is against the law not to have car insurance. I know how important it is to have car insurance for many reasons. I've been in car accidents and was always very glad that I had insurance AND that the drivers that hit me HAD insurance. But, I'm sitting here thinking about those who don't have insurance and even though it has become a law, they still won't and for a very simple reason.....they can't afford it. How many people out there have to decide whether to spend the money they have on car insurance or food on the tables....yes, this is what it has come down to in this weakened economy. Sure, there are people who "play the system"; in other words have the fanciest, loudest gleaming cars to drive but do not have insurance. We can only hope that THOSE are the ones that will get caught, fined and/or thrown in jail. What does a father or single mom of say 2-3 kids do when he/she has a chance to work to provide for the family but after paying the household bills, cannot afford insurance. Do they get behind the wheel of their car and pray that they will stay safe on their trip to and from work. This SHOULD NOT be this way! Granted, it had to happen - making it mandatory to have auto insurance for many reasons but what do those do who live from paycheck to paycheck to keep food on the table for their kids? Sure, some say....take the bus. Yeah, right....like it's safe on the bus these days!! Where and when does it get better? We have people who would give anything to have a job to support their families...why should it be so difficult for them to get there?
No matter how you look at it.....it's sad!!
