I had started this entry a few weeks ago after Grandpa had retired on June 1st but got sidetracked which is not unusual for me with my mind sometimes going in 8 different directions at the same time.
Anyhow, the guys at Langer threw him a great retirement party at the Butler Inn (sort of a sports bar) and it was great fun! I was the 'designated driver' for the evening so Grandpa could really enjoy himself with his friends. I, myself, had a great time just listening to them talk about all the years that he was at Langer, all the jobs he had worked on and all the guys he had worked with. He worked with some great guys, some of which were there that night. I think it was a fun time for Grandpa but I think he was also a little sad. He had worked for the same company for 41 years and that's a long time!! And, as you can see by the card and authographed hard hat, he made some great friends and I'm sure for him, it was a pleasure to shake their hands one last time. Good job Grandpa!!!
As it turns out, Grandpa picked a good time to retire. The Sheet Metal Workers contract came due on June 1st and unfortunately, they decided to strike.....something that has not happened in many years. We went through a couple of strikes over the years, one that lasted for months when the girls were small and it was rough but we survived. So, hang in there guys!!!
Oh, and Grandpa's first pension check arrived!! So, it's REALLY OFFICIAL!!
