Hi, I'm Grandpa's sandwich keeper that he has used for holding his sandwich he packs himself for lunch on his work days. Don't remember how long I've been around but Grandma brought me home one day so Grandpa would stop getting his sandwiches smashed in his mess of a lunch box (upcoming blog entry). Up until I arrived, Grandpa would make his sandwich and stuff it in a sandwich bag.....the poor thing didn't have a chance in the lunch box! I mean bread really is not that sturdy of a lunch item and easily gets squished. But, even with all of that going on, Grandpa didn't seem to mind. Grandpa makes "jam" sandwiches which means, you take two pieces of bread, on the bottom piece you squirt on a little mustard, then the lunch meat of choice and then jam the other piece of bread on top....hense, the 'jam' sandwich. Over the years on the job, he has gone through many different kinds of lunch meat but I think his favorite is Olive Loaf....yuk!! Grandma won't even go near that stuff!
Grandpa only has five more days of work before he retires. That means he will use me just five more times and then what? What will become of me? Will I be tossed with the rest of the old worn out plastic containers and end up in some landfill somewhere? No, I'm not worried. Grandma has assured me that she has a spot picked out just for me in her Tupperware cupboard where I will live out my retirement!
Thanks Grandpa for all the fun lunches and for letting me be a part of your life working on so many buildings in and around Milwaukee! I'm sure I got to see more than your average sandwich keeper.
