Grandpa's lunch box looks a lot like his truck - filthy! I don't know what Gandpa plans on doing with it after tomorrow. I, personally, think it would be appropriate to run over his work lunch box with his work truck but that's just me. I certainly would not want to use it myself for anything. I'm not sure how long Grandpa has had this particular lunch box or exactly how many he has been through in his career but I do know that he was very particular about what kind and size he carried around and this one was one of his favorites (Rubbermaid, I believe). If you look real close at the top picture, you will see that I took this picture while he was filling it up for another day on the job. The Little Debbies are already in there (must have been a Double Ding-Dong Thursday since I see two packs), one can of soda, and a container of jello. He would make his sandwich and mix his Gatorade the night before and keep that in the frig until the next morning when he would throw it all together with that hard cooler block or whatever they call it. I'm not sure what else is in his lunch box since I tried not to get involved, but I do know that he carries salt and pepper in there along with a spoon (I'm not sure if that ever gets washed....ewwwwww). Maybe some paper towels, pain pills for his back. Oh, and he has a plastic container in there too. I don't remember what he keeps in there but the container keeps whatever it is dry and clean (certainly isn't the spoon).
It's going to be a little sad not seeing his lunch box parked next to the back door waiting to be taken on another job but it's ok......it served its purpose well and after tomorrow, it can also be retired with his work boots - right into the trash!
