Walking with Grandma and Grandpa

Yesterday Grandpa (who is not working this week) and I decided that we need to get out there and start walking!  As we head into retirement (or at least semi-retirement), and have started to try on our summer clothes (ah, a little snug) that we need to get moving for the sake of both our bodies and our pocketbooks.  Personally, I am still on the soapbox about why it should cost more money to eat healthy than to eat "junky" but that isn't going to change so we need to move on.  So, some diet changes will come about in our house along with WALKING!!  I was quite proud of us on our first day.  We walked up to Good Hope Road and back which we figure is about one mile; we won't mention how we had to stop at McDonald's to pick up their small soft-serve cone....hey, 'baby steps'!  That was in the morning; then in the afternoon, we took Sparkles for a walk around the 'long block' which is not exactly a short distance either and part of it being uphill.  We did ok but it seemed to be really hard on Sparkles (who, by the way could also lose a few pounds) so we may have to start her out on shorter jaunts.  We have also decided that no more new candy will come into this house; there is plenty of it in here already!  I'm off ice cream and on to frozen yogurt.  More salads, chicken and fish. Snacking at night is a BIG problem in this house so when Grandpa's 'snack box' is empty, it will not be refilled....except for maybe the pretzels.  Today when we walk, I am taking the camera to take some photos of our neighborhood before we move away.

Catch ya on the flip side......
