FINALLY........
Over many years, we have watched the old "Holiday Inn" in Menomonee Falls go through transformations to only end up as an empty shell of a building. It's been that way for months now; maybe over a year. The only reason I decided to write about this hotel is because I see it every week when I go to visit my mom in West Bend....you can't miss it while driving down Hwy. 45 and I have kept hoping that SOMEBODY would do SOMETHING with it, even if it meant demolishing it. It's an "eye-sore" if ever there was one. It does nothing for the Menomonee Falls skyline from the highway and it certainly is not a welcome sight to visitors to the area. I also have to say that this hotel holds a special spot in my heart as it was where Grandpa and I spent our wedding night almost 40 years ago as a twenty year-old newly-married couple about to start a long life together. I still remember our room was way at the end of a long hall; the end where you could view Hwy. 45 so for years after, as we drove down the highway, we could point and say "Yep, that was our room". It was was the Holiday Inn back then and I know it has gone through at least one name change since...the "Falls Inn" for one. I don't know the in's and out's of what happened to the hotel over all these years; how many times it has changed hands or what financial problems it may have run into but I do know that looking at that empty shell for so long has been sad. But now it is getting a new life!!! There are many landmarks in Milwaukee or the immediate area that I will remember after we move to Tennessee...for special, personal reasons and it's nice to know that this one will have a chance to come back. And, that's a good thing!
