How Could They.......?

Being that it's Valentine's Day tomorrow, I find it an appropriate time to vent my unhappiness about the Necco Candy Company changing the recipe of their Sweethearts, affectionally known as "Conversation Hearts".  Now, instead of the nice sugary "sweeter than sweet" hearts we have known all our lifes, we now have some crappy sweet/sour pieces of candy that are closer to Sweet Tarts than Sweethearts.  At first I really thought I was going bonkers.  I went to the store, bought a bag, came home and "YUK".  I figured I just picked out the wrong bag and got some more....same thing.  I finally discussed this dilemma with Becky while we were visiting her in Madison one Saturday and to my surprise, she had discovered the same thing.  However, her Shopko was still selling the old fashioned ones. So, off to Shopko we went.  I picked up two bags and was happy as a clam until I realized that two bags were not enough.  Soon after that, they had a news story on T.V. about the Necco Candy Company changing the recipe and that the old ones, as we knew them are GONE!!  GONE!!  (Shopko must have dragged out last years leftover stock)  How can that be?  Who decided to change the recipe without consulting us who buy them?  At least M&M will put a new flavor out there as a 'limited edition', see how they go over, then decide to bring it back as a regular flavor or not.  It's called "Customer Consideration", Necco!!  They consulted us (well, not me because I wasn't born yet, whether you believe it or not) in 1910 when they decided to change the messages on them.  So, why didn't they do the same with the taste....oh, and again they added some new sayings besides messing with the taste; cute little quips like "Text Me" and "E-Mail Me".  Figures!!

As far as I'm concerned, they've gone too far.  That's like messing with the Hula-Hoop or the Slinky!!  And why is it when you can't have something, you want it even more?  I have Becky scouting out Madison for more bags of the old ones (she has one bag, yeah!) and even have Shelly (in Tennessee) on it, but I'm not holding out much hope.  It's a sad, sad day in "Candyland" and it may take me a while to recover from this one.

Goodbye little hearts.....we loved you and you will be greatly missed.  Let us please have a moment of silence in honor of the Conversation Hearts of long ago.

You are in the same boat as us. We HATE THE NEW ONES and will not be getting them anymore. Everyone we talk to hate them, so I going by next year the old ones will be back. We are going to write them a letter, and email them. Its just not right!!! It's a sad day at the Poirier House. The one thing I that I love at Valintines is now gone. :(
