Whether it's Karl on a car phone, or Debbie calling in from De Pere, Green Bay Packers' fans want Brett Favre and his Minnesota Vikings to lose this weekend, denying the Vikings the chance to go to the Super Bowl.
Steve (The Homer) True, sports-talk show host on WAUK-AM (540) certainly thinks so.
"If he was playing for the New York Jets, this would be entirely different," True said. "I just can't conceive the Vikings winning their first Super Bowl with Brett Favre.
"Just saying it sounds wrong."
He's right.
Bill Michaels, sports-talk show host on WTMJ-AM (620), said the majority of callers and e-mails coming to him "are hoping to see Favre go down in flames this weekend.
It seems that most are looking for the Brett Favre that cost the Packers so many postseason games. The Brett that forces the ball into coverage and gets picked off 2-3-4 times. It's as if people are waiting to say, 'There's the Brett we came to know and love.' I also think the feeling is, 'Why didn't he play this well when he was with us?' "
Aaron Nagler, who partners with Corey Behnke on the CheeseheadTV blog, says he's still trying to deal with Favre in a purple uniform. "The Packers' fan in me can't handle it," he said. "And having Favre makes it a thousand times worse."
I love Brett," he added. "I totally understand why he did what he did. But I don't want him to win. And for Brad Childress to be a Super Bowl winning coach? That makes me sick."
O'Neill is wintering in Arizona, and doesn't miss the Wisconsin winter one bit. He'll be watching the game on Sunday.
"Ever since the Vikings came into the league, I've never rooted for them," he said. "Having Brett Favre doesn't change that. If anything, it adds fuel to the fire."
"He has tainted his legacy. There's no getting around that."
At this point I just want to sit back and let the season end already. IT'S JUST FOOTBALL, PEOPLE!! The Brett Farve 3-year debate, fiasco, whatever you want to call it should come to a close and we should all move on. BUT, ir is so true. Brett was a hero to us. He was OUR quarterback. He belonged in Green and Gold until he REALLY retired. Those feelings will not go away; people will not forget. Mr. Favre's legacy is not quite as shiny as it once was and the REALLY sad thing about this whole mess is that I don't think he really cares.....
