We're off to visit Becky and family tomorrow so I was busy baking a Grandma Cake today to take along. Actually, it's Pillsbury's Funfetti cake (in a box)with the coordinated Funfetti frosting and sprinkles (in a can). As we all know, I'm not one to bake, or cook....or even go near the stove or oven for any reason so it's sort of ironic that me, of all people, would get a rep for baking one tastey little confection! Well, it all started at the beginning of December when we were invited to help Isabelle celebrate her 2nd birthday. It was going to be a low-key celebration so I asked if I could bake the birthday cake and what kind would 'trip her trigger'......the "speckled kind"!! And THAT is how this all started. I think it was more of a hit with Mitchell and Mike than with Izzy since all she cared about was that it had a candle and we sang "Happy Birthday" to her. From there, it went to baking one for Christmas (with green icing and Christmas sprinkles, of course). Another hit!
A little background on the cake and icing. I always get Pillsbury and like Super Walmart at .88 each (the thrifty shopper that I am). Now, there might be other brands out there but why mess with a proven success? Maybe it's the 1 cup of pudding in the mix that makes it so moist and yummy. Or, maybe it's just that cute little Pillsbury Dough Boy. Couldn't you just tickle his little belly! As for the icing, for the birthday cake I used white with the pastel sprinkles (it was for a girl, afterall). This time I was going to use white again but accidentally grabbed the pink icing....do you think anyone will notice or care?
Here it is fresh out of the oven! MMMMMM! I just LOVE the way it makes the house smell when I'm baking it. Let me just touch on the tins I use for a moment. Also Walmart; cakes come out perfect, come with their own plastic lids are ARE disposable so I can leave the leftovers behind and not worry about getting my cake pan back. A great find by Great Grandma "Whippersnapper" on one of our weekly shopping jaunts. She wanted to bake brownies (she LOVES to bake brownies), take them to someone's house when visiting and not have to worry about.....you got it....getting her pan back! So now I keep them handy in my cupboard. They come in a set of two. At $1.50 each, well-worth the cost to me!
Wholla!!!! And here it is....a little PINK but ready to cover, pack up and take to Madison tomorrow for our visit. Mitchell and Mike will be thrilled!
Oh, and when I wondered if anyone would notice the pink icing or care......Grandpa did!!! He gave it a "thumbs down" as you can see.........
"Grandma Cake" #3 and counting.......
