My visit here in Tennessee is coming to an end and we all will be jumping into Shelly's family van and heading to Wisconsin for Christmas. It's going to be a very special Christmas since Shelly, Trinity and Madison will be with us to celebrate this year. It has been too many years since we were last with Shelly for Christmas and this is just the start of many more to come. Christmas will be celebrated at Becky and Mike's house in Madison. Shelly and the girls will be camping at their house for a couple of days including Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Grandpa and I will show up bright and early to watch the pandemonium of 6 kids unwrapping the gifts left under the tree by Santa (since Becky has to work on Christmas Eve, Mike and Shelly will have to be Santa's helpers this year) and others. It doesn't get better than this! Mike will be running around with a garbage bag collecting paper; making sure not to grab any instructions, warranties or wayward pieces of a gift. Sam will be toting her tools ready to put all the little kids' new toys together as she does every year. Becky, I imagine, will be snapping away with her new camera catching those special shots; one of which we all have already enjoyed on their Christmas card for 2009. Shelly, I think, will so excited that she may actually be speechless. Madison will be dreamy eyed (her first love) while watching Mitchell bounce off the walls. And, I can picture Izzy sitting on Trinity's lap with huge smiles on their faces enjoying the first "Schmidt, Smith, Maier Family Christmas"!
After all the gifts are opened, Mike's delicious meal is eaten and the kids are crashing from all the excitement and their 'sugar highs', Grandpa and I will be sitting in contentment enjoying the best gift we could have received this year - having the entire family together for the first time for Christmas!
I better make sure I have tissues.......
