Squirrels vs. Grandma

Since daylight savings time changed again, the sun comes up earlier on the east side of the house in the kitchen. I'm back into do jigsaw puzzles so when it gets nice and bright in the kitchen, I move my puzzle board to the kitchen table and take advantage of the nice light coming through the patio door. There is nothing better than doing puzzles in natural light, especially when your eyes are as old as mine! Well, on Monday I caught a glimpse of two squirrels out of the corner of my eye come over our fence onto the patio. Great!! Something new to blog about.....I mean, let's face it.....the house is done, Halloween is over, long time till Thanksgiving; thinking of things to write about is getting a little tough unless you want to see more picures of my front yard. Anyway, I threw these peanuts out on the patio, got my camera ready and worked on my puzzle....and worked on my puzzle.....and worked on my puzzle. I thought for sure that they would hear them hit the cement and come running. I mean look at them....five fat peanuts! I had visions of being overrun by families of squirrels and I would run out of peanuts and have to go buy more.....pounds! Or even having them eating out of my hands; I would be the neighborhood "squirrel whisperer". But, it wasn't meant to be. Eventually, I lost my light so I moved my puzzle off the table but decided to just leave the peanuts. I put the camera away since it was obvious that I was not going to get my award-winning photo on that day. I left the kitchen, ready to snuggle up and read a book in the den. I dozed off for a short time, woke up and headed to the kitchen to get something to drink and stopped dead in my tracks.....all the peanuts were gone!!! Those little brats! It became quite obvious that I was not dealing with your run-of-the-mill neighborhood squirrels; they were 'pros'. It's ok, we can deal with this. I just have to beat them at their own game. Yesterday, same routine.....got out the puzzle, camera ready and threw out some peanuts and waited. Soon one popped up by the apple tree. And then another by the fence and heading for the patio. I slowly reached for my camera, took aim, pressed the button and the camera jammed as the squirrel ran off with the peanut. I flung open the patio door, yelled at him and I swear I could hear him giggling as he ran off....off to tell his friends about the wacko lady that lives here. But, I got even. I stomped out to the patio and picked up the rest of the peanuts and took them back into the house. If they were not going to pose for me, they weren't going to get any more peanuts. I may have lost the first AND second battle but we'll see who wins the war. I figure when the snow starts to fly and they are tapping on my patio door looking for peanuts.....I'll be the one giggling.

As I write this, the sun is coming up and I am ready for round 3!!
