Silverware Drawer

Let's just say that my silverware drawer has always been a "creative mess". Actually, I don't know why we call it that since there is a lot of junk in there that does not fall under the category of 'silverware'. I want you to take note of the space next to and in front of the actual eating utensils. This is where anything that might fall under the heading of 'kitchen gadgets' ends up. And, it's always a new adventure whenever I open this drawer. I find things I didn't even know I had in addition to things that I have many of due to buying new ones when I thought I didn't have the first one.....like my can opener. I had been using this old clunky manual can opener for years (I could be wrong but I think since the day we first set up housekeeping) but it finally would not cut any more so I decided I needed a new one. I could not believe how sleek and lightweight they are now! So, for $1.99 I picked up a new one and added it to my drawer and tossed the dull one. I was excited! A few days later I opened the drawer all the way up and way back behind the silverware tray, I discovered one that had never been used from Pampered Chef. Didn't surprise me......I have a lot of stuff never used from Pampered Chef....from orange peelers to cake servers to measuring spoons to 'easy openers' to apple cutters to spatulas to stuff that I don't even know what it's used for and still in its original plastic bag. See that big brown club looking thing. That is a meat pounder. Who pounds meat and why? I use that to chop the ice cubes when they get all stuck together in our ice cube maker. I have to admit that finding a measuring spoon in my drawer can be a challenge. When you buy them, they are usually all hooked together very nicely so they are all in the same place at the same time. Right now, as I look in the drawer, I can spot a couple of red measuring spoons scattered throughout the cornucopia (isn't that a nice word for this time of the year) of stuff. I would bet that if I gathered all those together, there still wouldn't be a complete set....that's only because I know one of them is in my can of coffee.....and what's sitting in the drawer.....a coffee scoop! There is one item in this drawer that does get used on a regular basis. See that little brush with the green bristles. That is Grandpa's potato scrubbing brush; he likes baked potatoes so that I have to keep track of or life in our kitchen could become ugly if it ever disappeared. That just gives you a quick overview of my 'silverware" drawer. Hopefully, when we finally move to Tennessee some of this stuff will make it into the trash....then again, these could be real treasures for Shelly!
P.S. I have always used a manual can opener as opposed to an electric one because I don't like things "cluttering" my countertops.....go figure!
